Actor Ashley Park had a tall order when making over her guest house. The Emily in Paris star needed a multi-purpose space that could function as a glam room, closet, and office — all within roughly 400 square feet.
“I needed it to be extremely functional and beautiful all at once,” says Ashley. “I wanted a closet and vanity space that could fit all of my materials and wardrobe first and foremost, plus a workspace that anyone would feel excited to be in.”
She immediately tapped Havenly’s Kelsey Fischer and California Closets to bring the space to life, starting with the the basics: storage. “I worked closely with California Closets to create the best possible layout that maximized organization, storage, and functionality,” adds Kelsey. “It was essential to nail down the flow and intention of each section while maintaining the earthy, serene aesthetic.”

Adding Style And Substance
Before
After
Pre-makeover, the guest house was essentially an empty box brimming with potential. “There was no warmth to it, and it felt like an excluded part of the house,” notes Ashley. In addition to adding warmth and texture, Kelsey made sure there was a designated home for everything, from Ashley’s enviable collection of tall boots and heels, wide-brimmed hats, and floor-length gowns to makeup, skincare, and travel kits.
“Lighting was crucial here, too,” adds Kelsey. She added backlighting to the vanity, overhead lighting on dimmers, and strip lighting in the cabinets and shelves to illuminate her belongings. “Being able to really see what’s happening when styling an outfit and getting hair and makeup done is essential, so this was a big priority.”
Making 400 Square Feet Work Hard
Kelsey also made the call to create separate “zones” in the space: one for the closet and dressing room, and another for the vanity and lounge. “There was a natural segmentation of the space and an awkward gap we couldn’t overcome, so we used neutral linen drapery to create two separate rooms.” That way, Ashley can get ready behind closed doors, so to speak, and quickly transition to hair and makeup with her glam team.
Creating Serenity Amid Chaos
While Ashley is known for her expressive personal style and colorful accessories (she loves a platform heel!), she wanted to keep the aesthetic understated and serene. “As an actor, getting ready and glammed sometimes feels very overwhelming and frenetic. I wanted a space that felt tranquil and organized, so that everybody could do their best work,” explains Ashley.
To ensure the space would feel like a grounding force amid the colorful purses and clothing, Kelsey opted for a calming, neutral-on-neutral color palette anchored by the Hayley Sofa from Interior Define upholstered in Camel Performance Velvet — a standout piece in the space. “Yes, I have napped on it,” adds Ashley. “Every person who has sat on this couch hasn’t wanted to get up, and that makes me so happy.”
